(SAN FRANCISCO) Under the new redistricting map effective in 2022 for the congressional districts, the 15th District expands from the Northern San Mateo County to the Southeast sector of San Francisco, including Excelsior, Visitacion Valley and Portola which are Asian neighborhoods.

Congresswoman Jackie Speier who represents the 14th District for the past 14 years announced not seeking re-election in November last year. California Assemblymember Kevin Mullin who serves as Assembly Speaker pro Tem since 2014 is one of the candidates running for Congress to succeed Speier.

Last Saturday on January 29, Mullin attended the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA)’s first monthly meeting in 2022. He spoke to the San Francisco Chinatown family associations leaders seeking their support for his run for Congress.

District 15 will cover a large number of the Asian neighborhoods in San Francisco, in addition to Millbrae and South San Francisco which are in Mullin's Assembly District 22. "I will represent the Chinese community and Asian community and be the voice for the community when I get elected to the Congress," said Mullin.

Millbrae City Council Member Anders Fung who endorsed Mullins in the Congressional race accompanied Mullin to attend the CCBA meeting and spoke in Cantonese to translate the remarks for Mullin.

Mullin told the Chinatown leaders that he received the endorsements from Chinese community leaders including State Treasurer Fiona Ma, Assemblymember Phil Ting and San Francisco City Attorney David Chiu.

Mullin was born and raised in South San Francisco. His late father was Former State Assemblymember Gene Mullin. Mullin followed his father's footstep to pursue his career in public service. He was elected to the South San Francisco City Council first and then served as Mayor in 2011.

Prior to his elected positions, Mullin also served as the district director for Former State Senator Jackie Speier and as political director for his father, Former State Assemblymember Gene Mullin.

Mullin was first elected to the State Assembly in 2012 and has served as the Assembly Speaker pro Tem since 2014 up to the present.

Since entering the race for Congress in November, Mullin has received endorsements from Congresswoman Speier, California Attorney General Rob Bonta, California Superintendent of Public Instruction Tony Thurmond, State Senator Scott Wiener, former State Senator Jerry Hill.

The 15th District primary election will be held in June and the runoff election will be held in November.
