Caltrain celebrates its milestone as the first electrified commuter rail system in California between SF and San Jose

(SAN FRANCISCO) After a decade's planning, building and testing, Caltrain has become the first electrified commuter rail system in California providing a cleaner and faster train service starting September 21, 2024.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) Transit advocates submitted signatures to the Department of Elections on July 5 for a ballot measure aiming to bring in more revenues for the San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA), which faces a deficit challenge in the upcoming fiscal years. A new tax imposed on the ride-hail companies is the new funding source for SFMTA under the ballot measure proposal.

  • (Oakland) Pacific Gas and Electric Company (PG&E) encourages members of the underserved communities to take advantage of a number of incentives that they have provided to own electric vehicles for reaching the goal of clean energy.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) The Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit officially began on November 11, Saturday, and continues until November 19. Local residents of the San Francisco Bay Area have experienced long delay by driving on the streets and freeways.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) conference will be held at the Moscone Center in San Francisco from November 14 to 19. The U.S. Secret Service and San Francisco Police Department (SFPD) announced that increased local security measures and traffic detours would be in place starting days prior to the summit meeting.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) Caltrain announced a promotional fare discount program starting September 1 to December 31 this year to help the riders to save money. The promotions include $1 youth rides and 50% off all parking fee at all stations.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) California Public Utilities Commission (CPUC) approved permits on August 10 for two autonomous vehicle (AV) companies, Cruise and Waymo, to charge fares at any time for passenger service in San Francisco. The approval has made San Francisco the first city in California to provide full AV ride-hailing services.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) First generation Chinese American Lydia So was confirmed by the Board of Supervisors on July 18 to serve on the 7-member San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency (SFMTA) Board of Directors which has had no Asian representation for over one year, while the Asian ridership has reached at 40%.
