Dr. Maria Su appointed as new Superintendent for San Francisco Unified School District

SAN FRANCISCO — Dr. Maria Su, formerly Executive Director of the San Francisco Department of Children, Youth and Their Families, was appointed by the San Francisco Board of Education with 6-1 votes to immediately take over the position as the new Superintendent for the San Francisco Unified School District (SFUSD).

  • SAN FRANCISCO — The list of public school closures and mergers in San Francisco was finally released with 11 schools proposed to be permanently closed. Three of the 11 schools are elementary schools serving students in Chinatown and surrounding neighborhoods. A total of 4 schools proposed to be closed are high Asian enrollment schools. The Asian community has questioned if the list is unfairly targeted and impacted the Asian American families.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) On February 25, 2024, Recall School Board movement hero Kit Lam returned to the same old spot at Clement Street Farmers Market where he used to gather thousands of signatures for the recall petitions in 2021. This time Lam was a volunteer of Proposition G campaign to bring back algebra classes for students in San Francisco public schools.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) By a vote of 6-3, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on June 29 against affirmative action considering race in college admissions and affirmed that the admissions programs were unconstitutional violating equal protections.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) After two-year criminal and civil legal proceedings, volunteer parent Kit Lam's fighting for justice on the recall school petition stealing incident has come to a conclusion by accepting $1 compensation and a public apology published in three local newspapers in San Francisco.

  • (SAN FRANCISCO) Three incumbents, Lisa Weissman-Ward, Lainie Motamedi, and Ann Hsu, who were appointed by Mayor London Breed earlier this year to the Board of Education, are all expected to be re-elected in the November election.
