Former Academic Dean Jill Yee runs for San Francisco Community College Board of Trustees in November
(SAN FRANCISCO) Jill Yee, former Academic Dean and Department Chair of San Francisco City College, decided to go back to serve the City College community by filing papers to run for the Community College Board of Trustees in November election.
August 12 was the deadline for candidates to file papers to run for public offices in the November election. Yee filed all the papers to fulfill as a candidate to run the Community College Board on August 12.
A total of 13 candidates filed papers to run for the 7-member Community College Board with 4-year or 2-year terms. Yee is running for a 4-year term.
Yee is a graduate of San Francisco City College and University of California at Berkeley. She served 42 years in the City College before she retired. She was a professor, Department Chair, Academic Dean during the time that she worked at the City College for over four decades.
At a young age, Yee attended City College for 2 years and earned a bachelor of science degree from U.C. Berkeley, a master of science degree at San Francisco State University, and a law degree from Golden Gate University.
"I grew up in the Western Addition, the youngest of six siblings. We lived in the back area of my parents' dry cleaning business. While we didn't have much, our parents always impressed upon us the importance of education," Yee said in her statement to announce the candidacy.
“City College must become financially stable in order to meet its promise,” said Yee. "As the people's college, CCSF belongs to all of us. But right now, City College is in peril. That's why I'm running—to secure the future of this people's institution, a place that means so much to me."
