Winners of 2024 Children’s Art Contest announced, Liam Xie, a new immigrant, wins as Overall Champion

(SAN FRANCISCO) 36 young artists were announced as winners of the 2024 Children's Art Contest. Liam Xie, a new immigrant from China, won in the contest as the overall champion.
Xie, 10, is a resident of San Francisco Chinatown and has immigrated to the United States from China for only 2.5 years. He is the only child of his parents and loves drawing since he was a younger child. The inspiration came from Xie’s mother who is an artist and art teacher.
The 2024 Children's Art Contest was co-hosted by APA Family Support Services and Happy Picasso Art Studio. "Tradition Meets Modernity" was the theme of this year's contest. Participants were encouraged to explore the vibrant intersection between their heritage and contemporary influences.
The contest received submissions from young artists across the San Francisco Bay Area from ages 4 to 16. Each artwork from participants is in contest among one of three age groups, age 4-7, 8-11, 12-16. One overall champion was selected among all artwork submitted. A total of 36 winners were selected in all age groups.

Xie painted about his view of San Francisco Chinatown where he has lived for the past two and half years. Dragon, Central Subway, lanterns, ancient buildings and Chinese culture can be seen in his winning drawing artwork.
"We congratulate all the winners and participants and express our gratitude to everyone who contributed to the success of this contest,” said Fanny Lam, Executive Director of AFA Family Support Services.
“We extend our heartfelt appreciation to all participants who contributed their artistic expressions and made this contest a resounding success. What's more, we would like to express our gratitude to our sponsors, families and community members who supported and encouraged these young artists throughout their creative journey," Lam added.
