(SAN FRANCISCO) Two Asian women were attacked by groups of African American teens on the same day respectively at different locations in San Francisco. Both incidents indicate that anti-Asian violence is still happening in the city against victims at all ages.

Hudson Liao, founder of Asians Are Strong and member of Asian Justice Movement (AJM), has monitored the anti-Asian hate and violence very closely. "The Mayor and other city officials need to make a public statement regarding these attacks and if they are being investigated as hate crimes. And if they still believe she (Mayor London Breed) has solved anti-Asian hate crimes in the city as she proclaimed. Because a good portion of the public, especially the AAPI community, feels otherwise," said Liao.

Both attacks occurred on December 27, 2023. Both victims were sent to the hospital for treatment and later released.

According to the San Francisco Police Department (SFPD), a 63-year-old Asian woman was attacked by four black teens with a stick at 2:52 p.m. on December 27, 2023 at the 800 block of Mission Street in San Francisco downtown.

Four suspects were described as juveniles, two boys and two girls, between the ages of 16 to 18. All suspects fled from the scene when police officers arrived. The victim was sent to the hospital with injuries.

Sources told Wind Newspaper that the crime scene was inside the Fifth and Mission parking garage at 800 block Mission Street across from the Westfield Shopping Center. The victim is an employee of the garage.

Sources said the victim was working and sweeping the floor in the garage with a broom at the time she was attacked. When she saw four young people smoking marijuana inside the garage which was against the law, she tried to use a radio to contact the office in the garage.

When four teens realized that the victim might have notified the garage, all four teens took the broom from the victim and assaulted her with the broomstick and kicked her. Four suspects fled the scene on foot before police officers arrived.

The Vietnamese victim who lives in the Excelsior neighborhood told Wind Newspaper that she was sent home on the same day after treatment in the hospital. "I am very sick and depressed," the victim said on the phone in English five days after the attack.

"I am still not feeling well. I don't know why. It has been very difficult for me. You call me that makes me even more depressed. I don't want to talk about it again," the victim complained and said on the phone.

At 7:08 p.m. on December 27, 2023, a 16-year-old Asian girl was assaulted and robbed in the Excelsior which was the same neighborhood where the

63-year-old victim in the downtown garage incident resides.

According to SFPD, the minor victim was assaulted on the 600 block of Delano Avenue by three African American young men between the ages of 15 to 25.

Three suspects approached the victim on the street. One suspect punched the victim three times and took her backpack. All suspects fled the scene.

The victim was robbed of her backpack, water bottle, wallet, her personal identifications and cards. She was sent to the hospital for treatment with non-life threatening injuries.
