EMERYVILLE — All 14 police unions in Alameda County announced their support for the recall of Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price who faces the recall in the November 5 election.

Early voting for the November 5 election has begun by accepting voters to turn in their vote-by-mail ballots starting October 8. Ballot drop boxes are open from October 8 until Election Day on November 5 throughout the state.

The Recall Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price campaign held a press conference in Emeryville on Saturday, October 5, to announce the endorsements from 14 police unions in the county.

The 14 unions represent all of the police officers working at different law enforcement agencies in Alameda County. They include the Alameda Police Officers Association, Albany Police Officers Association, Berkeley Police Association, Deputy Sheriffs’ Association of Alameda County, Emeryville Police Officers Association, Fremont Police Association, Hayward Police Officers Association, Livermore Police Officers Association, Newark Police Officers Association, Oakland Police Officers Association, Piedmont Police Officers Association, Pleasanton Police Officers Association, San Leandro Police Officers Association, and the Union City Police Officers Association.

Price was elected as Alameda County’s District Attorney in November 2022. Voters in Alameda County will decide if Price could stay on the job in the November 5, 2024 election.

“Unfortunately as peace officers who work in Alameda County, we have seen the revolving door of our justice system – justified in the name of 'reform.' We see the same people committing the same crimes getting arrested repeatedly only to be released back into our communities to victimize more of our citizens," the police unions said in a joint statement.

“We cannot use reform rhetoric to allow criminals to continue victimizing our citizens with little to no consequences. We as Law Enforcement Professionals have not only taken an oath, but we have a fundamental duty to protect our communities,” the police unions added.

Supporters of the Recall Price campaign joined its co-principals Carl Chan and Brenda Grisham to attend the press event and thank the endorsements from all police unions in Alameda County.

"On behalf of SAFE, Safe Alameda For Everyone, Recall District Attorney Pamela Price, I thank the Alameda County Police Associations for their support. In order to keep our community safe, we have to vote to recall DA Price on November 5th," said Chan.

Earlier in the week, Congressman Eric Swalwell (D-Dublin), whose district mostly covers Alameda County, publicly announced his support for the recall of Price.

Swalwell grew up in Dublin of Alameda County and served as a prosecutor at the Alameda District Attorney's Office until he was elected to Congress in November 2012.

"The District Attorney of the county is the highest law enforcement officer in the county, but Pam Price doesn't act that way," Swalwell said in a statement announcing his support for the recall of Price. "Public safety is the paramount concern of Alameda County residents. Yet, under Price, the cops catch the criminals and Price puts them back into our community to re-offend."

"His support for an effort that undermines a fellow Democrat and rejects the position of local Democrats has left many of his constituents feeling betrayed. Some are questioning whether Swalwell is out of touch with the very people he claims to represent," Price's campaign responded.
