Be Chinatown donates Christmas presents to Chinatown SRO families
(SAN FRANCISCO) BeChinatown, a non-profit organization to revitalize Chinatown, held a Christmas celebration event last Saturday, Dec. 12, distributing Christmas gifts to 600 Single Room Occupancy(SRO) family children who live in Chinatown.
It was the first Christmas gift event for the low income families organized by BeChinatown which donated a dozen iPads a week ago to the outstanding students enrolling in Chinese school programs.
Members from the San Francisco Fire Department, Sheriff Department and Police Department joined BeChinatown in the event as volunteers to distribute the Christmas gifts to the families.
“There is an additional $10 gift certificate in each gift bag for them to shop in Chinatown,” said Lily Lo, a co-founder of BeChinatown. "The certificates were donated by the merchants to attract more people to shop in Chinatown. The pandemic has hit Chinatown economy very hard. BeChinatown wants to save the struggling businesses in Chinatown as well."
