(SAN FRANCISCO) The historic Central Subway is scheduled to be fully opened on January 7 daily with a new connection to the T Third line which can bring the riders from Visitacion Valley and Bayview directly to go into Chinatown without any transfers.

The Central Subway free special weekend service, Saturdays and Sundays only, launched on November 19 will end on New Year Day.

The full service of the Central Subway will begin on January 7 with daily service which runs Mondays through Fridays, 6 a.m. to midnight every 10 minutes, and Saturdays and Sundays, 8 a.m. to midnight every 12 minutes.

In the meantime, starting on January 7, the T Third line starts its historic new route, providing a direct Metro connection between Sunnydale (Visitacion Valley/Bayview) and Chinatown-Rose Pak Station. Riders from the south east side of the city can take the T Third line train to go to Chinatown directly via Central Subway.

The new T Third line vastly improves transportation to and from some of San Francisco’s most densely populated areas and major shopping corridors, expanding transit options and new connections, according to SFMTA.

The new T Third route will travel north to the new Central Subway from 4th and King Streets platform. It will no longer turn onto King Street or run along the Embarcadero and the Market Street subway. The K Ingleside line will move to travel between Balboa Park and Embarcadero Station.

Riders traveling to the stops along the Embarcadero, as well as the baseball stadium at 2nd and King streets, should transfer to the N Judah starting January 7, 2023.
