(SAN FRANCISCO) San Francisco voters will decide in the June Election if District Attorney Chesa Boudin can keep his job. Joe Alioto Veronese announced early on January 29 his plan to run for District Attorney at the Chinese Consolidated Benevolent Association (CCBA) meeting in Chinatown.

CCBA, the largest family association in San Francisco Chinatown, held its first monthly meeting in 2022 on January 29. Veronese was among the guest speakers to make presentations to the Chinatown community.

Veronese was born in San Francisco and is the grandson of Former San Francisco Mayor Joseph Alioto. He is the son of Former Board of Supervisors President Angela Alioto and Adolfo Veronese, owner and operator of several restaurants in San Francisco and Marin County.

Former Mayor Alioto established a law firm in the Financial District which is next to the San Francisco Chinatown on Washington Street. Veronese is from a political and legal family where all three generations are lawyers practicing at their family law firm in the city.

Veronese was appointed by Former Mayor Gavin Newsom as a Police Commissioner and by Mayor London Breed as a Fire Commissioner.

"I believe in the rights of public safety. Everyone should feel safe working on the streets," said Veronese to the CCBA leaders. Based on his extensive experience in public safety, Veronese stated he would be a very qualified candidate to be the next District Attorney in the city.

"I was in the police academy to be trained as a police officer," said Veronese who became involved in law enforcement when he graduated from UCLA. He was trained at the San Francisco Police Academy and was hired subsequently by Former District Attorney Terence Hallinan as a criminal investigator.

Veronese told the CCBA leaders that he supported the work of the police officers in order to protect the members of the Chinese and Asian community who have faced the rising anti-Asian hate and violence in the city and nationwide.
